Joe Giard SGC-Encapsulated Index Card Signature
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $5,581.25
Index card featuring the extremely rare signature of Joe Giard, a member of the 1927 New York Yankees, encapsulated “Authentic” by SGC (in conjunction with James Spence Authentication). This is an ideal example and a significant rarity in this extremely desirable form. Giard’s signature has been scripted in blue ink (grading “9/10”) on the unlined reverse of the card. The word “Autograph” is stamped in blue along the top of the card. Joe Giard’s Major League pitching career lasted three seasons and he finished his career with a lifetime 13-15 record and 5.96 ERA. Despite those less than impressive accomplishments, his signature is extremely highly prized by collectors due to the fact that Girard is the most elusive of all 1927 Yankees signatures and the key rarity in completing a set of 1927 New York Yankees signatures. Giard passed away in 1956 at the age of fifty-eight. His final season was with the legendary 1927 New York Yankees. The index card (5 x 3 inches) displays a very small, light stain in the upper right corner (very faint and not easily visible from the front, but visible on the reverse) and also the light pencil notation "1927" on the reverse. Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $5,581.25
