Henry Chadwick Signed Stereoscope Card

Fascinating item relating to Henry Chadwick which includes a very high quality full-cut ink signature. Presented is a color stereoscope card of Greenwood Cemetery that has been embellished with a number of affixed clippings including a cut signature of Henry Chadwick on the reverse. The card, decorated after Chadwick's death, is a unique commemorative piece. In addition to the cut signature, it also includes a cut photo of the Chadwick Monument (that marks his gravesite at Brooklyn's famous Greenwood Cemetery) and a clipping of a newspaper article announcing Chadwick's funeral. The signature, penned in black ink on a small white cut (3 x 1 inches), grades "8." A vintage pencil notation on the reverse, next to the picture of the monument, reads "Henry Chadwick 'Father of Baseball' - Monument Dedicated April 22 1909." Chadwick's name is also written in pencil next to the cut signature. The newspaper clipping affixed to the front is entitled "Funeral of Henry Chadwick," and notes that " funeral services were held yesterday for Henry Chadwick, the 'Father of Baseball'....Many men prominent in the baseball world attended the services. The burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in a plot bought for Mr. Chadwick several years ago by A. G. Spalding.
