1970 Rold Gold Pretzels 3-D Complete PSA-Graded Set (15): #4 PSA Registry!

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $528.75

Complete set of fifteen cards entirely graded by PSA. Two cards grade GEM MINT 10 (#2 Hornsby and #10 Collins) and thirteen grade MINT 9, for an average grade of 9.13! This is the #4 set of 1970 Rold Golds on the PSA Registry. The Rold Gold set is a "sleeper." This is a set that is impossible to look at without appreciating the commitment to quality evidenced in its production. The Xograph company, which designed and printed this small set, wanted each card to be great. And it is. Yet, because it is an "oddball" issue, and relatively recent (though not getting any younger) it is often overlooked by collectors. There aren't many sets that are as distinctive and interesting from this era. This set was produced to honor the “Greatest Players Ever” in the first 100 years of baseball as chosen by the Baseball Writers of America in 1969. These cards are usually found with minor surface imperfections, which are common to 3-D style issues in general. Cards of Babe Ruth (two different poses), Lou Gehrig, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, and ten other Hall of Famers comprise the set. The only way to assemble a 1970 Rold Gold set was to buy countless bags of pretzels, which included only one card per bag. The set was re-released by Kellogg’s in 1972, but Rold Gold cards can be differentiated from the Kellogg’s cards of 1972 by the 1970 copyright date on the reverse. Not every great set costs a fortune. This is a magnificent and beautiful ultra high PSA-graded complete set of one of the best "old-timer" sets ever made. Total 15 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $528.75
