1966 Topps Venezuelan Complete Set (370)
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $6,462.50
Extremely rare 1966 Topps Venezuelan complete set of 370 cards. The Topps Venezuelan issues are among the most fascinating sets of the 1960s. The first 370 cards of Topps’ 1966 baseball set (# 1-370) were reprinted on a darker cardboard stock for sale in the Venezuelan market. They are identical in design to the regular-issue Topps’ cards. This set is far from Mint condition, but is far above average for this unusual issue. The condition ranges from Poor to Vg (includes a few Vg-Ex). For many sets, that might not sound special, but for this rare issue, it is in fact very respectable, and would not be an easy task to duplicate. This set has been carefully assembled with great effort by a dedicated collector who obviously had a special fascination for this issue. As is standard with these cards, many cards have light paper loss and scrapbook remnants on the reverse since this issue was intended to be glued into an album produced for that purpose, and is the result of being glued in and later removed. Without reference to the backs, the keys grade as follows: #1 Mays (Pr-Fr), 30 Rose (Gd), 50 Mantle (80/20 L/R, otherwise Vg), 70 Yastrzemski (75/25 T/B, otherwise Vg), 72 Perez (Fr-Gd), 100 Koufax (Gd-Vg), 110 Banks (Fr), 120 Killebrew (Fr), 125 Brock (Gd-Vg), 126 Palmer RC (Vg), 160 Ford (Pr), 172 Mets (Vg), 195 Morgan (Vg), 200 Mathews (Gd-Vg), 215 NL Batting LDRS (PSA EX 5), 254 Jenkins RC (Vg), 255 Stargell (Vg), 288 Sutton RC (Vg), 300 Clemente (Vg), 310 F. Robinson (Fr-Gd), 320 Gibson (Vg), and 365 Maris (Pr). Though it receives little attention because rarely found in high grade, the Topps Venezuelan cards are among the most unusual and scarce baseball card sets of the decade, and are virtually never seen in complete-set form. This is the first complete set we have ever seen or offered. Total 370 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $6,462.50
