1958 Topps #487 Mickey Mantle PSA MINT 9

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,880.00

Graded MINT 9 by PSA. Highest-graded example. Pack-fresh gem with flawless colors and gloss, bright red background, and four razor-sharp corners. Centered very slightly to the left. This card was part of a small but very substantial collection of key cards that included nine 1958 Topps #487 Mantles, all of which were submitted for grading by REA. This was the best of these nine sharp-looking cards and the only one to grade MINT 9. (The other eight examples are offered elsewhere in this auction.) A quick look at the PSA population report shows that an almost incredible 3,200 examples of this card have been graded to date. Of these, however, only 33 have graded PSA MINT 9, with no PSA 10 examples ever graded. 1958 Topps cards typically suffer from a variety of condition problems, including print defects and a tendency to have soft corners, which make Mint examples particularly difficult to find. This is a world-class example, far exceeding the expectations for 1958 Topps. It would be hard to imagine a finer example. SMR value is $2,200. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,880.00
