1887 N284 Buchner Gold Coin Tobacco Card Collection SGC Graded (12)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,112.50
Magnificent high-grade collection of twelve Buchner Gold Coin tobacco cards, all graded and encapsulated by SGC. Many of these cards are the highest- or second-highest graded examples in the entire SGC Population Report. Three cards are graded SGC EX+ 70, six are graded EX 60, two are graded VG/EX 50, and one is graded VG 40. This is a very substantial group of these scarce and very colorful nineteenth-century tobacco cards. Buchners are unusual in that they feature generic rather than actual likenesses of the players identified. They are also well known as one of the most distinctive, artistic, and strikingly attractive of all nineteenth-century issues. The SGC grades are as follows: Three EX+ 70: Barkley (Pittsburg), Miller, and Ryan. Six EX 60: Carruthers (Caruthers), Dailey (Daily), Daley (Daily), Deasley, Hines (batter), and Rooks. Two VG/EX 50: Andrews (hands waist high) and Orr. One VG 40: Foutz. This is a beautiful group of these nineteenth-century classics. Total 12 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $4,112.50
