1948 Leaf #4 Stan Musial PSA NM-MT 8
Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $4,406.25
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Only two examples have ever received a higher grade from PSA. Presented is an exceptionally high grade example of this classic rookie card of Hall of Famer Stan Musial. The 1948 Leaf Bubble Gum card of Musial is one of the most popular and striking of all Stan Musial cards. The cards manufactured by Leaf Gum Co. in 1948 and 1949 are often encountered with many problems (excessive toning, general wear from fragile paper stock, soft corners, centering issues, and print lines), and collectors also have to deal with the wildly varying degrees of print quality that characterize the set. It is easy to see why 1948 Leafs are one of the most difficult of all issues to collect in high grade. The offered card is a great rarity in terms of condition and quality for any 1948 Leaf, let alone Stan Musial, one of the key Hall of Famers in the set. The offered example has a perfectly crisp image with flawless registration. The image of Musial practically jumps off the deep blue background. Perfectly clean front and back, with four sharp corners, centered slightly to the bottom, and with just a hint of natural toning. The reverse is clean and free of staining or excess print. This is an extremely attractive high-grade example of one of the icons of postwar Hall of Fame card collecting, and in the eyes of many, Stan Musial's single most desirable baseball card. This classic card has always been a favorite with collectors and is rarely found in this high grade. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $4,406.25
