1921 E253 Oxford Confectionery Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $3,231.25

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Extremely rare caramel card of Ty Cobb issued by Oxford Confectionery of Oxford, Pennsylvania. This card has been harshly graded Vg-Ex by SGC, and in our opinion warrants a grade of Excellent, and has an appearance bordering on Ex-Mt. Bright and clean. No creases. Square corners. A tiny hint of a stain, barely detectible and the size of a stamp hinge, is of absolutely no consequence and may be responsible for the particularly harsh SGC grade. This is a beautiful card and especially strong for Oxfords, which are printed on card stock that is particularly prone to wear. Oxford Confectionery issued this unusual set in 1921, at the same time its larger competitors were also issuing baseball cards with caramel treats. Collectors have always appreciated the rarity and primitive charm of this distinctive candy issue, which features photos that are unique to this set. A complete twenty-card checklist appears on the reverse of each card. Oxfords appear to have been regionally issued, as they are rarely found outside of the Pennsylvania area. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $3,231.25
