Newly Discovered 1921 Herpolsheimer's Clothing Rogers Hornsby

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,410.00

Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Offered is the only example known of Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby from the extremely rare 1921 Herpolsheimer's Clothing set. Herpolsheimer's Clothing is one of the very few newly discovered vintage baseball card sets to surface in recent times. Only a single find in 2004 of approximately seventy cards has ever surfaced, and it is believed that only one of each subject was included in this discovery. The Herpolsheimer's set is very similar in design to E121 American Caramel and related issues. All cards from the find have a price notation written in pencil on the reverse. The card has been graded Good by SGC (Excellent appearance but has been downgraded due to the pencil notation on the reverse). Bright and clean, with four square corners with just the slightest hint of wear. Centered slightly to the top border. We have never before encountered even a single card from this set until last year. If these cards are not unique, they are very close to being so. This is an exceptional sample of Rogers Hornsby, one of the very few major Hall of Famers from this extremely rare and relatively newly discovered vintage baseball card set. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,410.00
