1916-1920 W-UNC "Big Head" Strip Card Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,643.75

Stunning high-grade example of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb, one of the key cards from the extremely unique "Big Head" Strip Card set, encapsulated AUTH by SGC. Because these cards were hand-cut from strips, they tend to have very slightly irregular cuts, and SGC rarely assigns a numerical grade to them (or to strip cards in general). The late teens and very early 1920s presented few baseball card sets for youngsters to collect, and strip cards were both the most prominent and most affordable cards of the era. These small, uniquely designed cards are blank-backed and measure 1-3/8 x 2-1/2 inches. Cobb is featured in full uniform in a running pose. The offered card is extremely bright and clean, both front and back, with flawless registration, vibrant colors, and an overall Vg-Ex/Ex appearance. This is a very attractive example of Ty Cobb from one of the rarest and most unique of all vintage card issues. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,643.75
