1912 T207 Brown Background Louis Lowdermilk
Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $4,112.50
Graded EX 5 by PSA. One of only three examples graded at this level. Crisp, clean, super high-grade example of T207 Louis Lowdermilk, one of the legendary rarities of tobacco cards. This card looks Ex-Mt and has most likely been downgraded to EX by PSA due to the approximately 70/30 top-to-bottom centering (which is not uncommon with T207s). Lowdermilk has long been recognized as the key rarity of the T207 brown background tobacco-card series. In the 1930s, in the original American Card Catalog by Jefferson Burdick, Lowdermilk was the only card in the T207 set listed as rarer and more valuable. (At that time, its value was listed at $1. The T206 Wagner was listed at $50.) Today collectors recognize many cards as being of various degrees of rarity in the T207 set, but Lowdermilk will always be the most famous key rarity of the classic T207 set. There is no cigarette company advertisement on the reverse. Today these no-ad back cards are often referred to as "Anonymous" brand cards by collectors; in the old days many collectors referred to these as issued by Coupon Tobacco. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $4,112.50
