1910 E125 American Caramel Die-cuts New York Giants Collection (9)

Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $17,625.00

Collection of nine E125 American Caramel cards, each representing a player from the New York Giants (nine out of eleven for a complete team subset), highlighted by many extreme rarities, including the only example known to date of the legendary Fred Merkle. Most cards have an appearance far superior to their technically accurate assigned grades. The die-cut design of E125s makes them particularly susceptible to tiny creases; thus many cards with an Excellent or better appearance have been graded Vg or Vg-Ex. The lot consists: Red Ames (Vg), Al Bridwell (wrist crease has been reinforced with cardboard on the reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex), Art Devlin (Vg-Ex), Josh Devore (Vg), Fred Merkle (only one known to exist, Vg condition), Red Murray (Gd-Vg), Cy Seymour (light surface wrinkle below the "NY" logo, otherwise Ex-Mt), Art Wilson (neck crease, otherwise Ex), and Hooks Wiltse (wrist crease has been reinforced with cardboard on the reverse, otherwise Ex). The stand-up tabs are all intact and have never even been folded back. E125 die-cuts are among the rarest of all 1910-era candy issues. No full set is known to exist, and due to their considerable rarity, even the checklisting of the set is still a work in progress some ninety years after its issue. This is an extraordinary collection of these rare and unique 1910-era baseball die-cut caramel cards. Total 9 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000. SOLD FOR $17,625.00
