1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb Red Background

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,292.50

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. The T206 portrait of Ty Cobb set against a brilliant red background is considered by many collectors to be his single most classic card. It is one of the most recognizable and popular of all vintage baseball cards. Presented is a bright, crisp, clean VG/EX example, with no creases, outstanding color, perfect registration, and an extremely bold red background. The card has light, even corner wear (predominately the upper right), and was downgraded from Excellent by SGC solely due to this light corner wear and the centering (30/70 L/R and 40/60 T/B). The Sweet Caporal ad on the reverse is centered and very clean. This example illustrates that even today a collector, with patience, can still obtain many of the most noteworthy cards in outstanding condition on a relatively modest budget. In the "old days" many collectors would have graded this card Ex or Ex-Mt and no one would have taken exception! SMR value in VG-EX is $925. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800+. SOLD FOR $1,292.50
