The charity that the Net54 Vintage Baseball Card Forum board members have chosen is The Painted Turtle, an innovative camp and family care center for children with life-threatening illnesses. Founded in 1999 by Paul Newman and Page Adler, The Painted Turtle provides a life-changing experience to children whose daily struggles often diminish both their desire to be well and their ability to lead a rich, productive life. It seems most fitting to us that a shared interest in collecting baseball cards, which were intended to bring joy to children long ago, should play a role in contributing to the well being of children today who have to deal with the most serious hardships that life can offer to them and their families. This project was conceived, organized, and executed by the vintage card collectors of the Net54 Vintage Baseball Card Forum. It is an honor for REA to contribute our services to this project, and to help execute the vision of the generous collectors who have donated their time, effort, and material to such a worthy charitable cause. We hope this will be the first of many similar auctions, in which, working together, collectors with an extra card here, or duplicate there, can make a difference. Our hats are off to Kyle Bicking, who originated this auction concept, communicated with everyone involved, collected all the items from collectors, and, in short, really "made it happen." Our hats are also off to the following generous collectors, each of whom went out of his or her way to contribute valuable cards to help create an exciting auction lot: Dan Bretta, Darren Magness, Tom Hines, Mike Ellis, Jay Miller, Robert Adesso, Bruce MacPherson, Bruce Babcock, Dave Faust, Barry Sloate, Kyle Bicking, Michael Sarno, Leon Luckey, Jim Loewke, Jim Blumenthal, Alan Sassoon, Pete Ullman, and Joann Kline. Whoever wins this lot, the one thing that is certain is that all of the proceeds will go toward making the lives of seriously ill children a little brighter, and maybe a little bit healthier. For some of these children, The Painted Turtle will provide the greatest and most joyous time of their lives. The contributors from Net54 have done their part. To every bidder on this lot, whether you are the final winner or not, you are making an equally significant contribution. The Painted Turtle and the children whose lives they enrich give thanks to the contributing members of Net54 and all bidders for your generosity.Reserve $500. Estimate (open).

The Painted Turtle is a U.S. 501(c) (3) tax-exempt organization. For additional information about The Painted Turtle, go to For this special charity lot we will request that the winner make his or her check payable directly to “The Painted Turtle."
