Fleer's "Three Stooges" cards continue to grow in popularity. When the color set was issued in 1959, the Stooges' movie shorts were being introduced for the first time to a new generation of youngsters on television, and the response was as positive and enthusiastic as when the trio first attained stardom in the 1930s. Their newfound popularity revitalized their careers, giving the Stooges a second chance to entertain millions with feature-length movies, personal appearances, and many other projects. Their shorts, which were originally produced to be shown as a bonus with feature films at movie theaters, are still shown on television today, ensuring a legion of new fans in each new generation, and promoting The Stooges' status as American icons of comedy. This is an extraordinarily high-grade collection, with each card worthy of inclusion in the finest "Three Stooges" set or nonsport collection. SMR has just begun listing values for a few of the most classic nonsport sets. The SMR value for just twenty of the twenty-seven cards in this lot (not including the seven qualified cards) is $2,480. Total 27 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $1880.00
