1933 R135-1 "Beautiful Ships" Complete Set: #1 PSA Registry (24)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $6,462.50

Exceptional high-grade complete set of 1933 R135-1 "Beautiful Ships." Cards from this set feature striking and very colorful illustrations of ships from all around the world. The set was produced by two Boston-based companies, Package Confectionary and United Candy. Only twenty-four cards were ever issued. The second group of twenty-four cards, which would have fulfilled the promise of forty-eight cards suggested by the "series of 48" claim which is advertised on the back of every card, was apparently planned but never issued. The entire set of twenty-four cards has been graded and encapsulated by PSA. The set includes ten PSA 8s, eight PSA 7s, and two PSA 4s. This set is rated as the number-one set on the "PSA Set Registry" with an overall GPA rating of 7.21. The complete PSA condition composite follows: Twelve NM-MT 8: #5, 7, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, and 23. Nine NM 7: #1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, and 20. One EX-MT 6: #24. Two VG-EX 4: #10 and 14. This is an extraordinary high-grade set, the finest on the PSA Registry, of this extremely attractive and scarce 1930s nonsport card issue. Total 24 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $6,462.50
