Circa 1908 Rare "Topless" Coca-Cola Tray

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,406.25

Throughout its long history, Coca-Cola has always been famous for featuring beautiful woman on its advertising displays. In 1908, however, the company "pushed the envelope" in the name of art and promotion by issuing a serving tray featuring a topless woman. Offered here is an outstanding example of that classic Coca-Cola tray, which today is universally recognized as among the most valuable of all Coca-Cola advertising items. This tray is rare and is one of only two such advertising displays issued by the company picturing a topless woman. (The other piece, which features this identical image and was issued at the same time, is a Vienna art plate with an ad for Coca-Cola on the reverse.) While the image may have been viewed as somewhat risqué in 1908, it is certainly tame by today’s standards and represents one of the most elegantly designed Coca-Cola trays from the period. The tray (12.25 inches in diameter) displays light wear along the rim and a few small scratches and pinpoint abrasions. This is in outstanding condition for this advertising classic. Technically in Very Good to Excellent condition, with a strong Excellent display appearance. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,406.25
