Kurt Cobain 1982 Freshman Year High School Yearbook
Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $587.50
1982 Montesano High School (Washington) yearbook, titled Sylvan , issued during Kurt Cobain’s freshman year. Cobain, who later rose to fame as the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the rock band Nirvana, is pictured on page thirty among his other freshman classmates. This is an extremely rare yearbook due to the fact that the 1982 Montesano High School senior class only numbered ninety-five students. Cobain’s freshman class consisted of 115 students, one of whom was the original owner of this book. Cobain’s high school years were both traumatic and formative. During this time he became enamored of the punk scene which influenced his music so strongly in the years to come, attending numerous punk rock concerts in Seattle. In adulthood, as he became the icon of the Grunge Rock movement, he seemed ill-equipped to handle the fame his music brought him. On April 8, 1994, the pressures finally overtook him and he committed suicide, leaving behind a legion of fans that continue to idolize him to this day, and who appreciate the powerful influence of his music. The 200-page leather-bound yearbook bears the stamped name of the former owner on the cover and is in Excellent condition. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $587.50
