1983-1984 North Carolina Tar Heels Team-Signed Basketball with Michael Jordan
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $5,581.25
Spalding basketball, displaying alternating panels of white and "Tar Heel" blue, signed in black Sharpie by eighteen members of the 1983-1984 North Carolina men's basketball team including Michael Jordan (directly on the ball label), Sam Perkins, Matt Doherty, Brad Daugherty, Kenny Smith, Steve Hale, Dean Smith (head coach), Roy Williams (asst. coach), and Bill Gutheridge (asst. coach). The notation "1983-84 Tar Heels" is written in black marker on one of the blue panels. The signatures are all fairly uniform in strength, grading "8/9," and the ball is in Excellent condition. The 1983-1984 season marked Jordan's final season at North Carolina, where he starred for three seasons. Jordan's college career began on a high note as he helped lead the Tar Heels to the 1982 NCAA Championship as a freshman. He closed out his career in equally spectacular fashion. Jordan was named the Naismith College Player of the Year in 1984 and was also awarded the prestigious John R. Wooden Award. Jordan-signed items dating from his college days are very scarce, and this team-signed basketball, commemorating his final college season, is a particularly rare, substantial, and historically significant early Jordan-signed item. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $5,581.25
