1972 LeRoy Neiman Limited-Edition "Baseball Player Suite" (10)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $2,937.50
Complete set of ten limited-edition LeRoy Neiman baseball photo-etchings from original drawings, each signed and numbered in pencil along the lower margin by Neiman. This collection of etchings, known as the "Baseball Player Suite," was issued in 1972 and is highlighted by a rendering of Mickey Mantle captured in mid swing. Neiman, whose studio was located in New York City, was a frequent visitor to Yankee Stadium in the 1960s and had many opportunities to witness Mantle in action. This collection reflects his New York bias, as a number of etchings depict generic players in pinstripes and one even captures the famed Yankee Stadium facade in the background. The ten artworks offered here are titled, respectively, "Wind Up," "The Hit," "The Pitch," "Sliding Home," "Next at Bat," "Warm Up Swings" (Mantle), "Batting Practice," "The Umps," "Awaiting the Decision," and "The Argument." Each of these ten different etchings was limited to an edition of just 150, and all of the artworks offered here are hand numbered "61/150" in the lower left corner. Image area: 7.37 x 8.25 inches. Eight of the etchings have been matted to total dimensions of 16 x 17.25 inches. Total: 10 signed and individually numbered etchings. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,937.50
