Pittsburgh Pirates Pro Model Bat Collection (4)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,762.50
Collection of four professional model bats, each issued to a former member of the Pittsburgh Pirates: 1) Bob Skinner: 1950 H&B signature model "S2" bat. Skinner's uniform number ("4") is written on the knob in vintage black marker. (Skinner joined Pittsburgh in 1954, but did not wear number "4" until 1956, thus more narrowly dating this bat to the five-year period 1956 to 1960.) The bat displays heavy use including numerous ball marks, light deadwood, and a seven-inch "H" crack in the handle. Length: 34.5 inches. Weight: 31 ounces. 2) Don Hoak: 1961-1964 H&B signature model "U1" bat. Hoak's uniform number ("12") is written on the knob in vintage green marker. (Hoak wore number "12" with the Pirates in 1961 and 1962 and with the Phillies in 1963 and 1964.) Heavy use is displayed in the form of ball marks and an approximate four-inch multiple crack in the handle that has been repaired with a small 1.5-inch wrap of black tape. Length: 34 inches. Weight: 32.5 ounces. 3) Gene Alley: 1965-1968 H&B signature model "S226" bat. Alley's uniform number ("22") is written on the knob in black marker. (Alley only wore number "22" with the Pirates in 1968). Aside from a few light surface marks, including a black rack mark, the bat displays no use. Length: 34.5 inches. Weight: 32.5 ounces. 4) Dave Cash: 1973-1975 H&B signature model "C277" bat. Cash's uniform number ("30") is written on the knob in black marker. (Cash wore number "30" with the Pirates in 1973 and with the Phillies in 1974 and 1975.) The bat displays light use. Length: 34.5 inches. Weight: 33.5 ounces. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Total: 4 bats. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,762.50
