1907 A. C. Dietsche Detroit Tigers Postcard Near-Complete Set (15 of 16)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $2,115.00

Near-complete set of fifteen (out of 16) 1907 A. C. Dietsche Detroit Tigers Postcards (Series 1). Missing only the rare Ty Cobb fielding pose variation for completion. For some reason the Cobb fielding pose is far rarer than the Cobb batting pose, to such an extraordinary extent that we can only assume the Cobb fielding pose was replaced with the batting pose early in the print run. Produced by the Dietsche Postcard Company of Detroit to commemorate the Tigers' participation in the 1907 World Series, this is a particularly interesting set in that it includes Ty Cobb's true rookie card. The other Hall of Famers in the set are Sam Crawford and Hughie Jennings. This group is in far superior condition to those normally found. All are in Excellent condition, exhibiting just a hint of corner and edge wear but no creases (with the exception of one common with a tiny corner crease). All have clean unused reverses. Dietsche also issued a companion set of the Cubs. The Dietsche Detroit Tigers postcard set represents an outstanding value, all the more so because it includes Ty Cobb's rookie card, and is one of the most distinctive sets of the era. Total 15 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $2,115.00
