2005 Tino Martinez New York Yankees Game-Used Road Jersey (Steiner)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $822.50
New York Yankees road jersey worn by first baseman Tino Martinez on April 11, 2005, in a game against the Boston Red Sox. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. This jersey originates directly from Yankees-Steiner Collectibles, the official collectibles company of the New York Yankees, which exclusively markets all authentic game-used Yankees jerseys, and is accompanied by an LOA from the company attesting to its game-used status. The jersey also bears an MLB Authentication sticker (MT 00535436) on the reverse that verifies its use by Martinez on April 11th. The gray knit jersey is lettered "New York" across the front and features the number "24" on the reverse. All letters and numerals have been appliquéd in navy on white tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Majestic Athletic" label, an adjacent "2005" year tag, and a flag tag bearing the size, "48." A Major League Baseball patch appears on the rear collar. The jersey is completely original, with no alterations, and displays light wear throughout including minor soiling along the sleeves and shoulder areas. Martinez went hitless in four at bats against the Red Sox on April 11, 2005. It was not a good day for the Yankees either, as the club lost to its hated rivals 6-1. One of the most popular Yankees during his seve-year tenure with the club, Martinez will always be remembered for his dramatic two-out game-tying home run in Game 4 of the 2001 World Series. That memorable blast, which came at the expense of Diamondbacks reliever Byung-Hyun Kim, remains one of the greatest moments in Yankees history and set the stage for Derek Jeter's game-winning home run the following inning. In 2005, Martinez's final season in baseball, he batted .241 with 17 home runs and 49 RBI, thus ending a stellar sixteen-year career that included four World Championship seasons with the Yankees. Graded A10 by MEARS (5 point base grade, plus 5 points for provenance). LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and also from Yankees-Steiner Collectibles attesting to its authenticity and game-used provenance. All authentic game-used modern-era Yankee jerseys originate directly from Steiner. This is the only Tino Martinez jersey listed in the MEARS census. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $822.50
