1988 Carlton Fisk Chicago White Sox Signed Game-Used Road Jersey
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,645.00
Chicago White Sox road jersey worn by Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk in 1988. The gray knit jersey is lettered "Chicago" across the front and features the number "72" on the reverse. All letters and numerals have been appliquéd in navy on red tackle twill. Located on the left interior tail are a "Rawlings 48" label, a flag tag reading "Set 1 1988," and a gray strip tag bearing the stitched letter "T" (indicating a tapered waist). Fisk has inscribed the jersey in black Sharpie (grading "8/9") on the upper left breast, "Carlton Fisk - 72." Aside from the waist having been custom tapered for Fisk, the jersey is completely original, with no other alterations, and displays moderate wear including light abrasions on the numbers as a result of the constant contact with Fisk's catcher's gear. Despite being elected to eleven All-Star Games and retiring as the all-time leader in home runs for a catcher (a record since broken), Carlton Fisk will always be remembered for his role in one of the greatest moments in World Series history. Fisk brought an end to one of the most exciting World Series games in memory with his game-winning home run in the bottom of the twelfth inning at Fenway Park in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series. The image of Fisk waving the ball fair remains one of the most indelible memories for a generation of fans and was certainly the defining moment of his long and distinguished career. Fisk was limited to only seventy-four games in 1988 due to injury; however, he still managed to post impressive numbers, batting .277 with 19 home runs and 50 RBI. In 1997 the White Sox retired his number “72.” He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2000. Graded A8 by MEARS (5 point base grade, plus 3 points for the use-specific wear on the numbers). LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,645.00
