Circa 1907 Ty Cobb Studio Portrait
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,175.00
Exceptionally high-quality silver print professional studio portrait (3.75 x 5.5 inches) of Ty Cobb in formal attire at the start of his Hall of Fame career. This is an extraordinary portrait photograph, with tremendous contrast and detail, dating from very early in Cobb's career, approximately from the time of his Major League debut in 1907. The photographer's embossed stamp "C.M. Hayes & Co. Detroit Mich." appears in the lower left. The photo has some very minor glue residue on the reverse, which is mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy, and is otherwise in Excellent condition. We have never seen another portrait of Cobb of this quality dating from so early in his career. This is a spectacular, extremely rare, and very possibly unique early photograph of Ty Cobb. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the family of Ms. Lou LaPointe, Ty Cobb's secretary, detailing the history of the photograph, which was given as a gift personally by Ty Cobb. Beautifully matted and framed to the dimensions of 10 x 12 inches. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
