Circa 1930 PR4 "Cracker Jack" Pins Complete Set (25)
Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $1,057.50
This 25-player pin set was issued in the 1930s and has long been referred to by collectors as "the Cracker Jack pin set," though there is no manufacturer indicated on the pins themselves, and we have never seen any evidence supporting this attribution. We believe this set was issued by a gum company, who also issued other similar pin sets featuring different subjects such as U.S. Presidents. This is one of the few quality pin sets of the era, and an exceptional value compared to most other 1930s issues. Each pin measures 13/16 inch in diameter and features a line drawing of a player portrait. Printed in blue and gray and yellow, the set is highlighted by Lou Gehrig, Dizzy Dean, and many other Hall of Famers. The surface of these pins chip and wear very easily. A few pins in this set have some minor surface wear, and the Gehrig has significant wear around the perimeter. The set presents in Vg to Vg-Ex condition overall. Total 25 pins. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $1,057.50
