1887-1951 Vintage GAI-Graded Card Collection (55)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,525.00

Offered is an extremely diverse and substantial collection of fifty-five different cards, mostly low grade but with many exceptions, dating from 1887 to 1951, with representation from twelve different highly regarded issues. This is a fascinating selection of quality vintage cards from some of the most desirable sets of the era, highlighted by three Ty Cobbs, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, and Nap Lajoie. All fifty-five cards (except two) have been graded and encapsulated by GAI (unless otherwise noted); of those, eighteen have been encapsulated as Authentic. 1) 1887 N172 Old Judge (12 cards): Dan Brouthers (HOF, Auth – bottom clipped off), Brown (Auth), Burns (Auth), Farrar (Auth), Hudson (1886 Brownie Champs, Auth), Johnston (Auth), Mattimore (Fair 1.5), Radford (Auth), Somers (Auth), Sutcliffe (Fair 1.5), Townsend (Auth), Wood (SGC POOR 10). 2) 1888 N28 Allen & Ginter: John Clarkson (HOF, appears Vg-Ex but has a very slight trim along the left edge). 3) 1909 E92 Dockman & Sons: Nap Lajoie (HOF, Auth – the bottom border has been trimmed). 4) 1909-1911 T206 White Borders (7 cards): Blackburne (Auth), Chase/white cap (Good 2), Camnitz/side view (Auth), Cicotte (“Black Sox” – Poor 1), McQuillan/ball in hand (Poor 1), Sheckard/no glove (Poor 1), Unglaub (Good 2). 5) 1910 T210 Old Mill Tobacco “Series 2” (11 cards): Archer (G-VG 2.5), Hannafin (G-VG 2.5), Jackson (Fair 1.5), Jenkins (Good 2), Keifel (G-VG 2.5), McFarland (G-VG 2.5), Michel (VG 3), Rowe (Good 2), Smith/batting (G-VG 2.5), Verbout (G-VG 2.5), Wallace (Fair 1.5). 6) 1911 T205 Gold Borders (2 cards): Eddie Collins/closed mouth (HOF, Auth – trimmed) and Lobert (VG 3). 7) 1915 Craker Jack (16 cards): #9 (PSA GOOD 2), 20 (PSA VG-EX 4), 27 (1914, Poor 1), 48 (Auth), 92 (Poor 1), 97 (Fair 1.5), 125 (Fair 1.5), 140 (PSA VG-EX 4), 146 (Fair 1.5), 151 (Fair 1.5), 152 (Auth), 153 (Fair 1.5), 157 (EX 5), 163 (Auth), 164 (PSA GOOD 2), 174 (Fair 1.5). 8) 1922 E120 American Caramel: Ty Cobb (HOF, Auth – the borders have been trimmed away. It is interesting to note that Cobb's name is misspelled as "Cob" on this card). 9) 1922 E121 American Caramel (Series 120): Walter Johnson (HOF, Fair 1.5). 10) 1923 W572: Ty Cobb (HOF, Auth – the right border has been trimmed). 11) 1946 Propagandas Montiel: #42 Ty Cobb (HOF, PSA GOOD 2 – a very attractive Vg card downgraded due to moisture staining on the back). 12) 1951 Topps Connie Mack’s All-Stars: Honus Wagner (HOF, punched out of die cut, Gd condition).
