1949/50 Gil Coan Washington Senators Game-Used Road Jersey
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,527.50
Offered here is a 1949-1950 Washington Senators road flannel jersey attributed to outfielder Gil Coan. The style of this jersey dates only to the two-year period 1949-1950. Outfielder Gil Coan wore number “3” in 1949, but no roster player wore that number in 1950. If we knew with certainty that this jersey was from 1949, it could only have been worn by Gil Coan. If it dates from 1950 (the 1949 and 1950 styles, are identical), it could have been issued and used by any non-roster player during spring training or during the season. The gray, zipper-front jersey features the letter “W” on the left breast and the number “3” on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in navy on red felt. A “MacGregor/Goldsmith 42” label is located in the collar. Aside from the name tag having been removed from the collar, the jersey is complete as issued, with no alterations. Light wear is displayed throughout and the zipper remains fully functional. Graded A7 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with 3 points deducted for lack of positive player identification). From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,527.50
