1998 "The Kings" Signed Original Ron Lewis Painting
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,232.50
Original oil-on-canvas painting, created by renowned sports artist Ron Lewis, signed and personalized to Barry Halper by Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan, Pete Rose and Rickey Henderson. In 1998 baseball’s all-time leaders in home runs (Aaron), hits (Rose), strikeouts (Ryan), and stolen bases (Henderson) were brought together at a signing show headlined as “The Kings.” In conjunction with that significant signing event, the promoters commissioned Ron Lewis to create a signature artwork that would be used to produce a limited-number of high quality lithographs featuring those four “Kings” of the diamond. Offered here is the very painting created by Ron Lewis for that event. The original artwork was purchased by Barry Halper directly from the show promoters. He then had each of the four legends sign the painting for him. All of the players have personalized the piece to Barry in blue Sharpie near their image, with the inscriptions reading as follows: “Best wishes to Barry - Hank Aaron;” “Barry, you are the real king – Pete Rose Hit King;” “To my pal Barry – Nolan Ryan 5,714 K’s;” and “To Barry may God Bless – Rickey Henderson S. B. King.” All of the inscriptions and signatures have been boldly scripted and each grade a perfect “10.” The painting has also been signed and dated (“1/98”) by the artist. Ron Lewis is one of the finest and most prominent sports artists alive today and is best known for his famous 500 Home Run Club artworks. The offered original painting is one of Ron Lewis' most famous works. This unique piece is all the more special in that was signed by baseball’s four kings in 1998 to the man who will forever be the “King” of collectors. The painting measures 20 x 24 inches and has been matted and framed to a total dimension of 23 x 27 inches. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,232.50
