Joe DiMaggio Limited-Edition Signed "1941" Bat
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,232.50
Special limited-edition Joe DiMaggio signature model Hillerich & Bradsby bat signed by Joe DiMaggio (“10”) in blue sharpie on the "sweet spot" of the barrel. This is one of a series of 1,941 bats signed by DiMaggio in 1993. The bat bears a unique stamping on the barrel that reads “Limited Edition - 1700/1941.” The number of bats in the series (1,941) was, of course, chosen to honor the year of DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak. These bats were originally marketed exclusively on the Home Shopping Network at a cost of $1,941 a piece. There have been very few signed limited-edition bats which have been produced and marketed so professionally that they have withstood the test of time as extremely desirable commodities, especially prized for the assurance of authenticity they provide. The Mantle/Maris signed limited edition of 115 bats and the DiMaggio signed limited-edition of 1,941 are rare exceptions. The bat is accompanied by notarized COA, featuring a photo of DiMaggio signing the piece, issued by Pro Sports Services. This is an ideal example, with a significant provenance, as this was Barry Halper's personal example. The bat is in Near Mint condition. Length: 36 inches. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,232.50
