1985 P. R. E. Pete Rose Set Uncut Sheet - Signed by Rose Ninety-Three Times!
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $2,232.50
If anyone ever doubted Barry Halper’s passion for obtaining autographs, all they have to do is gaze upon this remarkable piece: an uncut sheet of 1985 P. R. E. Pete Rose baseball cards featuring ninety-three individual Pete Rose signatures. A total of ninety-one cards are displayed on the sheet and Rose has signed each one on the front in blue Sharpie. Additionally, Rose has inscribed each of the two blank white corners “Pete Rose #4256,” for a total of ninety-three Rose signatures, which together give this sheet the visual impact of a pop art piece. All of the signatures are flawlessly scripted and grade “10.” This set was issued in 1985 by Renata Galasso and the copyright holder is identified as P. R. E. (Pete Rose Enterprises). Lettering on the back of each card also indicates that the set was “Designed by Topps Chewing Gum Inc.” A total of 120 cards were issued in the set. This uncut sheet features the first ninety cards in the set and includes a duplicate of card number one. The backs of the first three cards in the set offer career statistical information about Rose. Card numbers four through ninety in the set feature questions and answers about Rose on the reverse. The remaining thirty cards in the set are special puzzle-back cards, hence the use of two separate production sheets. This is almost certainly a unique Pete Rose signed item and one that offers tremendous visual appeal as well. The sheet measures 35.25 x 25.25 inches and has been framed to total dimensions of 39 x 29 inches. Ideally, it has been double Plexiglas framed so that both the front and back of the cards can be viewed if desired. In Near Mint condition. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,232.50
