Collection of Four New York Yankees Signed Pro Model Bats Including Reggie Jackson
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,762.50
Each of these four bats once resided in the Barry Halper Collection, and, as a result, three have been personally inscribed "To Barry." 1) 1971-79 Reggie Jackson Adirondack block-letter model "288RJ" bat. Jackson's uniform number ("44") is written on the knob in blue marker. This bat was given to Barry by Reggie as a token of appreciation, as noted by his blue marker inscription (grading "10") on the barrel: "To Barry - Thanks for the tour and letting me in your home - Reggie Jackson - May 25, 1986." The navy-ringed bat (34.37 inches, 32 ounces) displays no use and has been graded A5 by MEARS. 2) 1971-79 Bobby Murcer Adirondack block-letter model "112B" bat. Murcer's uniform number ("2") is written on the knob in black marker. Given that this bat dates from 1971-79, and that Murcer only wore number "2" with the Yankees from 1979-83, this bat can be conclusively dated to the 1979 season. Murcer has inscribed the bat in blue marker ("9") on the barrel: "To Barry - My Friend - Bobby Murcer." The navy-ringed bat (34.25 inches, 31.4 ounces) displays light use and has been graded A6 by MEARS (5 point base grade plus 1 point added for light use). 3) 1973-75 Bobby Murcer H&B signature model "W215" bat. The number "6" is written on the knob in black marker. Murcer wore number "1" with the Yankees between 1973 and 1975. Number "6" was worn by teammate Roy White, indicating that while this bat was ordered by Murcer, it was probably used by White. Murcer has inscribed the bat in blue marker (grading "9") on the barrel: "To Barry - My Pal - Bobby Murcer." The bat (34.87 inches, 34.6 ounces) displays heavy use including an application of vintage white tape on the handle which conceals a crack. Graded A5.5 by MEARS (5 point base grade with 3 points added for use, a half point deducted for the tape/crack, and 2 points deducted for a different player's uniform number appearing on the knob). 4) 2003 Alex Rodriguez Carolina Clubs (no model number listed) batting practice bat. These Carolina Club bats are typically used by Rodriguez for batting practice, not during a game. Rodriguez has inscribed the bat in silver Sharpie ("9") on the barrel: "Alex Rodriguez M.V.P. 2003." The bat (34 inches, 32 ounces) displays medium use, mainly above the barrel stamp, and has been graded A7 (specifically identified as a batting practice bat) by MEARS. (5 point base grade plus 2 points added for use). From the Barry Halper Collection. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Total: 4 bats. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,762.50
