Barry Halper's 1977 New York Yankees World Series Trophy

Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $16,450.00

Please Note: There is a manufacturing error on this trophy: the Dodgers World Series press pin is a 1978 World Series press pin, not a 1977 World Series press pin.

Barry Halper, in addition to owning the world's largest private baseball collection, was also a minority owner of the New York Yankees. Offered here is Barry Halper's personal 1977 New York Yankees World Series trophy commemorating the team's six-game victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. These trophies were presented only to players, team executives, and owners. It is extremely rare to see a World Series trophy available dating from such an early year, let alone from the Yankees. Almost all World Series trophies which appear at auction date from the 1990s (or more recent years). This was also a particularly significant trophy, as 1977 represented the first Yankee world championship since 1962. Produced by Balfour, the trophy features twenty-six gold-colored pennants (bearing the team name of each Major League franchise, respectively) displayed around the perimeter of a black wooden base. The interior metal design consists of a silver baseball, set within a gold band, atop which rests a crown. Displayed directly in front of this are the 1977 World Series press pins for the Yankees and Dodgers. The gold-colored band affixed around the base reads "World Series Champions - New York Yankees - 1977" in black lettering. The trophy displays light wear to the silver ball and is in Excellent to Mint condition. This is a very significant and desirable New York Yankees trophy that marks the club's first World Championship under George Steinbrenner's (and Barry Halper's) ownership. Height: 12 inches. Circumference: 23 inches. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $16,450.00
