Unique Wooden Baseball Trophy Pedestal Signed by 39 Hall of Famers including Ruth, Cobb, Young, Wagner etc.
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $5,581.25
Offered is one of the most unique signed items we have ever seen: a wooden trophy pedestal signed by nearly 100 individuals, highlighted by thirty-nine different Hall of Famers including Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner (twice), and Cy Young. The wooden pedestal (4.75 x 4.75 x 6 inches) has been signed in vintage black fountain pen along the top and all four sides. The strength of the signatures varies greatly between the panels, but fortunately most of the Hall of Fame signatures remain quite legible. A complete list of the Hall of Fame signatures is as follows: Alexander, Appling, Barrow, Chandler, Ty Cobb, Collins, Dean, Dickey, DiMaggio, Durocher, Feller, Foxx, Frick, Frisch, Gomez, Greenberg, Grove, Harridge, Hartnett, Hornsby, Hubbell, Lyons, Mack (twice), McCarthy, McKechnie, Medwick, Mize, Ott, Reese, Rickey, Rizzuto, Ruffing, Babe Ruth, Spahn, Stengel, Terry, Honus Wagner (twice), T. Williams, and Cy Young. Other signatures present include those of Fred Fitzsimmons, Dom DiMaggio, Vince DiMaggio, Frank Crosetti, Stan Hack, Jimmie Wilson, Sam Breadon, Kirby Higbe, Steve O'Neill, Johnny Murphy, George Selkirk, Frenchy Bordagaray, Eddie Joost, Whitey Moore, Lon Warneke, Johnny Allen, Charlie Keller, Johnny Hopp, Paul Derringer, Mort Cooper, Joe Stripp, Bill Nicholson, Red McQuillen, Bob Muncrief, Chuck Dressen, and Walker Cooper. Approximately one third of the signatures are extremely faint to the point of being illegible. The remaining signatures range from "4" to "10," averaging "7." Luckily, In terms of display value, the side panel with the most Hall of Fame signatures (23) is also the finest in terms of signature strength. That panel includes the signatures of Ruth ("8/9"), Young ("10"), Cobb ("8/9"), Alexander, Greenberg, Lyons, Durocher, Stengel, Feller, Rickey, Mack, Frisch, Reese, Frick, Terry, Harridge, Williams, Barrow, DiMaggio, Dickey, Medwick, McKechnie, and Hubbell. The two Wagner signatures, found on separate side panels, are also very strong, grading "9" and "7, " respectively. The wooden base displays holes along all four sides and the top where original hardware was removed. The figural piece is not original to the pedestal and was added by Barry Halper purely for decorative value. This figure could easily be replaced by a different baseball figure or trophy. Light wear is evident throughout (not significantly affecting any of the signatures) and the base is in Very Good condition overall. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $5,581.25
