1927 Babe Comes Home Lobby Card

Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $16,450.00

Presented is one of the signature Babe Ruth pieces in Barry Halper’s collection and one of the rarest of all Ruth collectibles: the most desirable lobby card from the 1927 First National Pictures release of Babe Comes Home starring Babe Ruth. This extraordinary rarity is the title card to the eight-card set and it is, to the best of our knowledge, the only example known. Many years ago a complete set of all eight Babe Comes Home lobby cards was discovered and Barry, whose collection already housed a tremendous amount of Ruth movie memorabilia, managed to make a deal for the title card. He considered it such a coup to finally acquire this elusive rarity that instead of parting with it, he kept it and displayed it in a place of great honor on his "Babe Ruth wall." This is an amazing Babe Ruth piece, and it's easy to see why it was a favorite of Barry's, especially since Barry always particularly enjoyed all items related to Ruth's career on the silver screen. Ruth’s image dominates the card and pictures the “Sultan of Swat” in the title role of “Babe Dugan.” Its rarity and visual appeal aside, the title card is also in Near Mint condition and has no trace of restoration. Barry’s Ruth collection was second to none and he considered this piece one of the highlights of that extraordinary assemblage. Babe Comes Home was the second feature film to star the Yankees legendary slugger and it was released in sound, so that for the first time fans could hear the Babe speak on screen. The offered card is one of the finest pieces of Ruth film memorabilia in existence and it is further enhanced by its long residence in the world’s largest and most famous private baseball collection. The card measures 14 x 11 inches and has been handsomely matted and framed to total dimensions of 19 x 16 inches. From the Barry Halper Collection. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000+. SOLD FOR $16,450.00
