1903 World Series Reunion Ball Signed By Six Including Cy Young
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $8,225.00
Official National League (Giles) ball signed in various shades of blue ink by Cy Young and five other participants in the 1903 World Series: Fred Clarke, Fred Parent, Paul Krueger, Tommy Leach, and Bill Dinneen. In addition to being an extraordinary theme ball, this unique ball has the added appeal of displaying as a Cy Young single if so desired. Young’s signature, penned in grandiose style, sits alone on a side panel and grades “8/9.” The signatures of Krueger (printed, “9”), Hall of Famer Fred Clarke (“8/9”) and Leach (“9”) appear together on a side panel (all extend into the sweet spot), while those of Dinneen (“7”) and Parent (“7”) sit together on an adjacent side panel. This ball dates from the early 1950s and was signed at a special reunion of the few then-living participants in the 1903 World Series. That first “fall classic” in modern times witnessed Young’s Boston Red Sox defeat the favored Pirates in eight games. The ball is bright and clean with flawlessly bold manufacturer's stampings throughout. Excellent to Mint condition. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $8,225.00
