Circa 1905 College Baseball Art Prints (4)

Collection of four early twentieth century art prints designed to celebrate the collegiate spirit of our National Pastime. Three colleges and one high school are represented in the collection of illustrated prints, each of which depicts a single ballplayer in uniform, as well as the name of the respective institution. Artistic prints such as these were very popular in the early part of the twentieth century. 1) Harvard: Copyright 1903 by the Potomac Press, Washington, D.C. The name of the artist, Bristow Adams, appears in the lower right. 13.25 x 22 inches. Vg, with edge wear, tack holes and corner chips. Mounted and framed to total dimensions of 18 x 28 inches. 2) Mercersburg: Copyright 1903 by the Potomac Press, Washington, D.C. The name of the artist, Bristow Adams, appears in the lower right. 13 x 21 inches. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 18 x 30 inches. The matting most likely hides some minor condition flaws along the borders, otherwise Ex in appearance. 3) Stevens Institute of Technology: Copyright 1909 by US Poster Company, Washington, D.C. The name of the artist, Will H. Chandlee, appears in the lower right. 14 x 20.5 inches. Vg, with trimmed top and bottom borders and edge tears (one repaired). Mounted and framed to total dimensions of 23 x 29 inches. 4) Marion High School: Copyright 1912 by US Poster Company, Washington, D.C. The name of the artist, Louis Fancher, appears in the lower right. 13 x 21 inches. Vg, with edge tears and a light stain in the lower right.
