Nineteenth-Century Baseball Pendant Collection (4)

Offered are four rare nineteenth-century baseball pendants, three with pinbacks, each presented to a player in recognition of individual achievement or of his being a member of a championship team, and bearing the name or initials of the recipient engraved on the front. The earliest (1.25 x 1.25 inches) features a hanging medallion (circular design with a crossed-bat motif) that is engraved "BBC - 1886." The name "W. Luhn" is engraved on the crossbar with pinback reverse. This piece appears to be gold but is not stamped. The second (1.5 x 2 inches, undated, circa 1890s) features a hanging pendant (bat-and-ball design in raised relief) that is engraved "St. Agatha Branch - Baseball League - Championship - No. 407 - C. - K of A." The name "H. Endress" is engraved on crossbar with pinback reverse. The third pin (1 x 1.5 inches) is undated (circa 1890s) and features a hanging pendant designed with a crossed bat-and-ball motif. The initials "C.P.M" are engraved on the crossbar with pin reverse. The final piece is a medallion (1.5 x 2 inches) in the shape of a shield, engraved "Presented to J. Bolton - For Highest Batting Average - Season 1895." The interlocking initials "B" and "J" are elaborately engraved on the reverse. All of the pieces display light wear, with the medallion exhibiting moderate tarnishing. Excellent condition overall. Total: 4 items. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $406.00
