1986 Darryl Strawberry New York Mets World Series Ring - Salesman's Sample
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,060.00
This salesman's sample 1986 Darryl Strawberry World Series ring, manufactured by Balfour for use by the company's sales personnel, is identical to the actual rings presented to the Mets players and executives in 1986, but is made of 10K gold instead of 14K. The front of the ring features a single imitation diamond set within a metal "baseball diamond," which is in turn set upon a blue stone. Twenty-four smaller imitation diamonds encircle the inside perimeter. "World Champions-1986" is engraved (in raised relief) along the outer perimeter. The right shank features the team name "Mets," a depiction of the World Series Trophy, the team's total number of wins ("116"), and the city ("New York"). The left shank features the name "Strawberry," a depiction of the Mets "25 Anniversary" logo, Strawberry's uniform number ("18"), and the city ("New York"). Engraved along the interior of the ring are the company's initials ("LGB") and "10K." Salesmen's sample rings are rare because they are a seriously expensive sales tool which, understandably, are not given away as promotional gifts. They are very popular with collectors when available, and represent a relatively affordable alternative to the virtually identical rings owned by the players, which would be many times more expensive if available. Approximate size: 12 inches. Near Mint condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $4,060.00
