1968/69 Seattle Pilots "Front Office" Archive Belonging To Team Owner Max Soriano
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $290.00
The history of the Seattle Pilots is quite brief. Joining the American League as an expansion club in 1969, the franchise, due to financial considerations, was quickly forced to move to Milwaukee the following spring. It would be another eight years before Major League Baseball returned to the Pacific Northwest. Offered is a rare collection of "front office" material relating to the Pilots' one and only season in Seattle. All of the papers and documents included in the collection originate from former team owner Max Soriano and are collected in the form of a blue, three-ring notebook bearing both his name and the team's name on the front. Included within the notebook are numerous examples of team forms and documents, the likes of which would be distributed to their scouts and minor league general managers, such as a copy of the team's scouting manual; a copy of the club's organizational policies (for distribution to general managers of affiliated clubs); sample player contracts and instructions for the scouts on how they should be filled out; copies of player transform reports; individual scouting sheets; expense reports; travel reports; club and game reports: and activity reports. Additional papers include a brief history regarding the formation of the club, the names and positions of early front office personnel and press notices relating to the expansion draft. Accompanying the three-ring notebook is a small, personal notepad of Soriano's (his name is stamped on the front) bearing a number of handwritten notes regarding club financial matters. Excellent condition overall. Included are approximately sixty documents and forms total. This is a fascinating and unique archive of official team documents relating to the creation of the Pilots and their first and only season in Seattle. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600.
