1940s Joe DiMaggio Pennant
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $464.00
We can't imagine that Joltin' Joe personally approved the design of this pennant, as the portrait image is not his finest likeness, but that is part of the charm of this rare stadium souvenir. Youngsters who were lucky enough to land this prize in the 1940s were able to declare their support for Joe and the Yankees with this pennant. "Joe DiMaggio" is printed in large white letters across the blue felt pennant, and, for good measure, a bat bearing his famous nickname, "Yankee Clipper," appears below. Individual players do not usually get their own pennant design, but Joe DiMaggio's stature was so great in the 1940s that souvenir manufacturers made an exception for him. In fact, this is one of several designs made featuring him. DiMaggio missed three years due to military service. In the thirteen seasons he played, between the years 1936 and 1951, DiMaggio led the Yankees to ten pennants and nine World Championships. Length: 28 inches. The pennant has very minor wear including just a hint of fraying at the tip and a few tiny cracks/chips to the paint. Excellent condition overall. Beautifully framed to total dimensions of 35.25 x 18 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $464.00
