Circa 1900 Schafer & Vater Ceramic Bisque Baseball Figural Pieces (3)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $696.00
The sport of baseball provides the comical backdrop for these three ceramic bisque pieces produced by the German manufacturing firm of Schafer & Vater. Dating from the early 1900s, this collection consists of a toothpick (or match) holder and two different ashtrays. Each of the pieces features identical figures (wide-mouthed rotund players) in various baseball poses, i.e. batting, sliding, throwing, etc. The word "Base-ball" is engraved along the front of each ashtray, with the lettering on one of the ashtrays having been painted black. Two figural pieces are featured on each ashtray, while the toothpick holder features a single player sliding. The players retain nearly all of their original paint with the exception of the batting figure on one of the ashtrays. Each piece bears the Schafer & Vater company logo on the bottom and is in Excellent condition overall. These baseball figural Schafer & Vater display pieces rarely survive in any condition. This is an extremely interesting and amusing collection of very rare and fragile Schafer & Vater display pieces. Total 3 pieces. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $696.00
