Circa 1905 Harvard & Yale Porcelain Mug and Pitcher Collection (10)

In the early part of the nineteenth century, families and patrons of prestigious schools would often demonstrate their support and school affiliation by using and displaying beautifully decorated porcelain mugs and pitchers. Presented is an extremely substantial collection of ten decorative Yale and Harvard porcelain mugs and pitchers. All of the six Harvard pieces feature the identical likeness of a Harvard baseball pitcher (created by noted illustrator F. Earl Christy) on the front and the school insignia on the reverse. Three of the four Yale pieces display identical images of a Yale player at bat on the front, while the fourth captures a Yale football player on the front and the school insignia on the reverse. All of the pieces date to circa 1905 and have handles. Harvard Items: 1) 14-inch high water pitcher, typical age crazing to the glaze, light chipping along the base, Ex; 2-3) two 5.5-inch high companion mugs to the previously listed water pitcher, one with slight fissures along the interior, both with very light chipping along the base, each Ex. 4) 10.75-inch high water pitcher, normal age crazing to the glaze and light age toning, Ex. 5) 5.25-inch high mug in the design of a football, "Compliments of James Hay - 183 E. Jackson Blvd - 255 LaSalle St.- Chicago" lettered on reverse, Ex-Mt; 6) 5-inch high mug, minor abrasions on reverse, Vg-Ex. Yale Items: 1) 12-inch high water pitcher, extremely light age crazing to the glaze (barely noticeable), Ex-Mt; 2-3) two 4.5-inch companion mugs to the previously listed pitcher, one with a metal lid (Vg-Ex), the other Ex. 4) 5-inch high mug (football player on front), slight age toning, Ex-Mt.
