Circa 1912 Red Sox and Pirates Photos With Honus Wagner
Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $464.00
Very unusual and substantial vintage framed display featuring two original circa 1912 photographs (each 9 x 7 inches) picturing members of the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates, respectively, including Honus Wagner. Both photos have been mounted with vintage captions below in white lettering. It is possible that this display originates from the personal collection of early Royal Rooter Joe Burns, as he is pictured posing with the players in each photo. The first captures Red Sox players Bill Carrigan and Heinie Wagner posing together with Burns and another gentleman (identified as "McDonough") in front of the team's bench. The second photo pictures Burns posing on field with Honus Wagner and Marty O'Toole of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Again, each individual is identified in white lettering below. The Pirates photo can be positively dated to 1912 due to the uniform style depicted, which was a one-year style unique to that season. It is most likely that the Red Sox photo dates from that season as well; however, the empirical evidence can only narrow the date to the four-year period 1912-1916 (based upon the uniform style and the length of Carrigan's playing career). Each photo has exceptional clarity and grades Ex-Mt. The photos appear to be housed in their original wood frame. A light stain in the upper right corner of the mount does not affect the photographs. This is a unique photographic piece which, based on its presentation and Burn's inclusion in each photo, may have once been displayed on the walls of "Nuff Said" McGreevey's famous Third Base bar. Total dimensions: 13 x 19.5 inches. Total: 2 photos (framed together). Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $464.00
