1889 N172 Old Judge Ed Delahanty - The Finest in Existence

Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $19,720.00

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. This extraordinary card is the highest graded N172 Old Judge example in the world of key Hall of Famer Ed Delahanty. This is the only N172 Ed Delahanty graded at this level, with none graded higher. In fact, the next highest graded example by PSA is EX 5. Ed Delahanty is one of the rarest of all Old Judge Hall of Famers. All five poses of Ed Delahanty in Old Judge were issued only in 1889, a particularly scarce year compared to 1887 and 1888, no doubt contributing to Delahanty's significant rarity. While this card features Delahanty with the Philadelphia Nationals in his second year in the majors, it is the first of his few baseball cards ever issued, and as such would be considered Delahanty's rookie card. This is a simply outstanding card in all respects. Perfectly clean, both front and back, with virtually flawless square corners, and superb contrast. By far the highest graded N172 Old Judge of Ed Delahanty in existence, this is an extraordinary example of one of the key nineteenth-century and Old Judge Hall of Famer rarities, and would be a significant highlight in even the most advanced Old Judge, nineteenth-century, or Hall of Famer card collection. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$20,000. SOLD FOR $19,720.00
