Circa 1900 MZ Austria Baseball Tableware (9 pieces)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $2,610.00
This decorative set of porcelain tableware, produced by the Austrian firm of Moritz Zdekauer, dates to the 1884-1909 manufacturing period. While the company's porcelain is often characterized by floral patterns, this collection pays homage to America's National Pastime. Each piece features one of four distinct illustrated baseball scenes and bears the company's "MZ Austria" stamp on the underside. The collection is comprised of the following: 1) 12.5-inch diameter dinner platter, Ex-Mt; 2) 9.5-inch diameter dinner plate, Ex; 3) 8.5-inch diameter dinner plate, Ex-Mt; 4) 7.5-inch tall tankard (no lid) with handle, Ex-Mt; 5-6) two 5.5-inch tall jars (different scene on each), one of which is missing its original top, one Ex, the other (with top) Ex-Mt. 7) 6-inch tall mug with handle, former price tag remnant on surface, otherwise Ex-Mt.; 8) 5-inch tall mug, Ex-Mt. Also included with the lot is a 4-inch tall mug manufactured in the style of Moritz Zdekauer. The mug features a nearly identical design (some subtle differences) and bears no manufacturer's stamping. Ex. Total: 9 items. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $2,610.00
