1890 Brooklyn BBC Joseph Hall Large Team Cabinet

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,160.00

1890 Brooklyn Baseball Club large-format team cabinet (6.5 x 9.25 inches) photograph by legendary photographer Joseph Hall. This very unusual Joseph Hall team cabinet taken at spring training features the 1890 National League champions, including Foutz, Lovett, Caruthers, and Terry, in street clothes. The gold lettering on the black mount identifies its location and date "At the old Spanish Fort, St. Augustine, Fla., Feb'y 1890." The team is dressed very nattily, with bowler hats and gold watch chains. Joseph Hall is identified as the photographer above the caption. The Brooklyn Bridegrooms were the champions of the American Association in 1889. The following year, however, they joined the National League, where they once again proved their superiority on the diamond, winning the pennant by six games. This is one of two large-format Joseph Hall cabinets of the Brooklyn champions we have seen, each featuring a different image, which were taken by Joseph Hall at the Old Spanish Fort in St. Augustine, Florida, during spring training of 1890. Both are probably unique, and it is interesting to note that each originates from the family of one of the Brooklyn players. The photograph is in Excellent condition, the mount (9.25 x 6.5 inches) displays a little corner wear and a few very minor abrasions. This is a very large and unusual size and style for a Joseph Hall team photograph. In Excellent condition overall. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
