1880s Baseball Pencil Box Collection (3)

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,972.00

Each of these three rare children's pencil boxes has a beautiful full-color baseball illustration on its lid. One depicts a game in progress, the second pictures a victorious team returning home carrying equipment (including bats and bases) and the third depicts nine members of a club in fielding or batting poses, with their respective positions listed below. Each case is designed with two or three separate compartments to hold pencils and other writing implements. All of the cases display general light wear, including some slight chipping to the painted surfaces, and are technically in Very Good to Excellent condition overall. This is an exceptional group, with each far superior in condition to what we normally encounter for these nineteenth-century classics. Total 3 boxes. Dimensions: each 7.75 x 2 x 1.25 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,972.00
