1890s to 1930s Baseball Porcelain Collection (11)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,508.00

Pitchers, mugs, creamers, and steins comprise this attractive collection of porcelain ware. The earliest pieces date from the late nineteenth century while the latest appear to have been manufactured in the 1930s (or possibly 1940s). Their common factor, of course, are the decorative baseball images displayed along the side(s) of each piece. 1-5) Five identically designed majolica pitchers, circa 1890s, each displaying two baseball players on one side and two soccer players on the other (in raised relief). Four of the pitchers are solid in color (two shades of blue, green and yellow) while the fifth is multicolored. The multicolored pitcher, which is stamped Etruscan Majolica on the base, displays a number of repaired cracks and retains a Vg-Ex appearance. The remainder (no manufacturer's stampings) are all in Ex-Mt condition, with the yellow and green pitchers displaying minute surface crazing. All are 8 inches in height. 6) Circa 1910 stein featuring various baseball figures in raised relief. The handle is also decoratively designed in a bat-and-ball motif. Germany is stamped on the base. Height: 7.5 inches. A repaired crack in the handle does not detract from its overall Ex-Mt appearance. 7-9) Three similarly designed pieces, circa 1930s-40s, each stamped Arthurwood on the base. Comprised of two identical 5.5-inch high mugs and a 4-inch high creamer. All are in Ex-Mt condition overall, with very light surface crazing. 10) Circa 1930s-40s red pottery mug featuring a baseball player in raised relief. A Dartmouth Pottery stamp appears on the base. Height: 5 inches. A slight crack along the side does not detract from its Ex-Mt appearance. 11) Circa 1930s-40s green mug. Height: 4.75 inches. The mug displays a crack through the image as well as a number of tiny chips. Gd condition. Total: 11 pieces. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,508.00
