1867 Union Baseball Club March Sheet Music
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,276.00
1867 baseball sheet music, titled Union Baseball Club March, composed by T. M. Brown and published by Rich J. Compton of St. Louis, Missouri. As noted on the cover, this march was dedicated "To the Members of the Union Base Ball Club - Champions of Missouri" and features nine beautifully engraved portrait images of the Union team members on the front. This is one of the earliest of all baseball sheet musics, and is also one of the first to picture actual likenesses of prominent ballplayers. The engraver's name ("F. Welcker") appears in the lower left. Little is known today about this celebrated team which predates professional baseball, but as the champions of the state of Missouri they were obviously held in extremely high esteem. The sheet music (9 x 13 inches) displays only some very light, scattered foxing and is in Excellent condition overall. Beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 15.5 x 19.25 inches. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,276.00
